Regarded by many as the Capital of the North

“What is there to do in Manchester?” Well, this page is all about places to go in Manchester - are we missing something? Let us know!

Manchester has been traditionally known as an industrial city, and for the part it played during the Industrial Revolution, and as home to Manchester United, one of the biggest and most successful football clubs in the world. But now Manchester has a cultural life to rival that of even London. The city boasts some of the most interesting galleries and museums in the UK, such as the Museum of Science and Industry, the Whitworth for modern art, the City Art Gallery, the Lowry and the Imperial War Museum North. It is also home to one of the liveliest music scenes in the world and has been responsible for some of the biggest bands of the last few decades, including internationally lauded acts Oasis, The Stone Roses and The Smiths. If you time your trip just right you may also get to experience one of the many diverse and hugely popular festival's the city hosts throughout the year. This rich cultural heritage gives Manchester a real charm and ensures there will always be something new and exciting for visitors to discover.
