We currently have guides for 150 towns and cities in the UK and 700 villages - all lovingly compiled by hand (see list).
But we need people to add great things to do to make the site even better.
Our aim is to be the first port of call to find interesting places to visit, eat and drink as well as sports, entertainment, leisure, shopping and places to stay.
A recent report by researcher Juliet Schor for RESOLVE concluded that if people had more free time the net effect would be beneficial for the economy and environment.
She claims it would cut unemployment, reduce carbon emissions, and of course give people a higher quality of life.
Shor states: 'As a growing movement of downshifters attests, short hour lifestyles allow people to build stronger social connections, maintain their physical and mental health, and engage in activities that are creative and meaningful.'
Why not mention it to your boss?
Basically we didn't like the stuff already out there on the web and thought we could do a better job. We wanted a site we'd use ourselves, with a particular emphasis on quality, useful content and simplicity. Helping people find things to do with kids and the coolest free things out there was a priority too.
We also wanted everything to be vetted manually too to stop the spurious 'reviews' that plague rival sites. We're not perfect, and don't claim to be, but the thought of helping you discover new and interesting things to do fills us a with a warm fuzzy feeling.
Lots and lots of great ideas for things to see and do in the UK. We've created seven unique categories to help you find all the best places and accommodation.
Visit - These are your big attractions. Museums, theme parks, art galleries, country parks, nature reserves, stately homes, gardens, zoos, beaches, basically the kind of things you'd plan a day out around. Think Alton Towers, London Eye, Legoland, Edinburgh Castle, Tate Gallery, National History Museum, Whipsnade Zoo, Sherwood Forest, Waddesdon Manor. And if it's a free attraction we tell you...because we're nice like that!
Eat and Drink - Here you'll find info on the best restaurants, bars, pubs, takeaways, picnic spots and cafes. So whether you're partial to Italian, Chinese, Mexican, Indian, Japenese or traditional English fare, we should have you covered!
Watch Listen and Nights Out - We all love to be entertained. Be it theatre, cinema, stand-up comedy, live music, ballet, opera, or a night out clubbing, we have details of hundreds of great venues and locations that will pander to your every entertainment need!
Sport and Leisure - If health and fitness is more your cup of tea we have details of gyms, leisure centres, swimming pools, aerobic classes, and a variety of specialist sport clubs such as scuba diving or bowls. For those with extreme sport leanings you'll find climbing walls, surfing schools, water sport centres, skate parks, bungee jump locations, dry ski slopes, snowboard centres, and even Zorbing! If you fancy something more sedate you'll find golf courses/clubs, cycle routes, walking guides and horse riding schools.
Shop and Treat Yourself - Definitely our most indulgent section! We'll let you know where the main shopping centres are, out of town retail parks and bargain-hunter favourite: designer outlet villages! Once you're all shopped out we'll guide you to a luxurious day spa for a well-earned massage and manicure. You'll also find details of hair and beauty salons and mobile beauty therapists.
Stay - To help you find the perfect night's sleep we have details of a wide range of accommodation including hotels, bed & breakfasts, guest houses, travel inns and hostels. So whether you're looking for 4* star luxury or budget accommodation, you should find what you're looking for!
Kids - Looking for idea's to keep the kids entertained? Look no further! We have soft play centres, farms, ten pin bowling alleys, cinemas, parks, playgrounds, swimming pools, leisure centres...more or less all the stuff we loved doing when we were kids!
If you're visiting a place you don't know that well (e.g. for a day out) and need to find a place to park then a rather nifty app is now available to help you out. Just go to the Car Park Finder app on your mobile device (works with desktops too) and take some stress out of parking. And Android owners can download a normal app too, bonus! iPhone version on its way...
As the last of the turkey sandwiches are consumed many people's thoughts turn to 'getting into shape' after the festive indulgence. As a nation we're apparently getting fatter and less healthier. And worryingly it's kids too - nearly 20% of 11 year olds are classed as obese. So why not check our dedicated 'Sports and leisure' section on each NBB page, try something new and get fit in the process? You don't have to join a gym and some sport is, we have it on good authority, fun!
Hard to believe it's only one month until Christmas Day. Or one month and a day if you're more looking forward to Boxing Day when it's all over! Many towns and cities have annual Christmas Fayres - be sure to check out the Annual Events section on each page. Make the most of the dry weather we've been having and get out and about - there are plenty of great places to visit and attractions open throughout December, many of them free. So you can do all your shopping online with a cuppa, beat the crowds and enjoy a day out instead - sorted.
School's out and that means one thing: it's October half term holidays time so parents everywhere will be looking for things to do with their kids next week. But don't worry, Autumn is a great season and we've got hundreds of suggestions here on NBB - so get searching, have fun, and never be bored!
